Best IFR textbook?
Hi-

I am going to be giving my brother ground school for an instrument rating. Can anyone suggest the best textbook to teach from? I am looking for something fairly modern, so things like GPS will be included. Also, if you know something modern or digital simulator and you share with me I would be greatful.

Thanks for any suggestions.

"Fate is the hunter" IFR rules are in place because people before us died, the rules are there to keep us alive. The AIM is a must.

Honestly, the FAA's Instrument Flying Handbook and Instrument Procedures Handbook should be his bible. There are plenty of supplemental resources, but these two are by far the most important.

I concur. They provide a solid basis from which you can expand as needed.

Ralph Butcher, gold seal CFI in southern California, wrote the best IFR Training manual I have ever encountered in my 30 years and 15,000hrs of flying. Search for "Skyroamers Publications" I can honestly say I would NOT be where I am today without having used this book.
