Cincinnati Spare Engines

I just flew into CVG and taxing in, saw two large shrink-wrapped engines on a remote ramp. They seemed to simply be stored there. Around the corner was a Kalitta 747, but I am not sure that these engines were freight on her. I am wondering if anyone knows why there were there? Is there an engine shop at CVG? Tried for a picture but it was raining/snow so not able. Thanks.

Could be wrong but I seem to recall GE having a facility in CVG?

Can you give a more detailed description of which ramp it was? DHL and Delta ship quite a few engine parts from CVG for GE Aviation, so that is mostly likely the reason.

I know that the ramp was near the rental car lot--as I picked up my car and saw the tail of the 747. What does GE Aviation do in Cincy?

Evendale, OH is CFM56, CF-6, LM2500 production facility—might be the answer. It’s nearby. Also, GE Engine HQ.

Okay, then yes, that was probably going on a DHL or Delta flight. The 747's sitting over there are waiting for their next DHL flight off of the main ramp. Cincy is GE Aviation's headquarters, lots of engine parts are shipped out of CVG on a regular basis.
