Gap in the windows on 787s, why?
Been curious about this for awhile. I've tried googling this with no answer. So, why does the 787 have the gap in the windows towards the back of the fuselage? First question here so I'm hoping I'm not beaten up because I'm not aware of something obvious.

The gap is where the join between the fuselage barrel sections is located. There is also one forward of the wings.

Thanks Dan23, so i guess my follow-up question is why don't you see this in other plane types or do they position the joins where the toilet or galley sections are mid-plane thus not impacting the seating areas?

Missing windows appear in all types. But since most other types are not built as barrels to join in the same way, the seams may not require a missing window between every section.

The original design actually had a window there, with one half of the window in each barrel section, and the seam going right through the middle of the window, but at later stages they found the need for further strengthening, so the windows were removed.

And in many cases the missing windows just ahead of the wings are for air ducts.

The 787 was to have windows saddling the join. This was shown to be technically inopportune.
