you want to kill them? Live Tropical fish should have it warm and cozy, same as cats and Dogs. Cooling makes sense for Dogs however in Tropical Areas..
then there are types of cargo such as foodstuff or medicines whoch Need temperature guided Transport. In "cooltainers"

In the US they ship live fish in a bubble wrap kind of thing with water and something to stun them for 18 hours. No heat or refrigeration included.

Depends on the aircraft type and options taken by the operator. Can be done either via a ground conditioned air cart or APU bleed.

The ability to read is a clear Advantage. I said "live Tropical fish should have it warm and cozy" The water and Oxygen must be well balaned and the cartons that contain the fish should not be exposed to cold temperatures.

Type dependent, but in my aircraft you can't control the temperature in the main holds, only the bulk hold. And you'll only be able to heat, not cool, the bulk hold. And the heater only works with the door closed.

Ground cooling of cargo areas is done the same way as the rest of the aircraft. Ground air can be used and run through the aircraft packs (depending on the airframe). The Aux power unit is often used, and the aircraft air conditioning packs are used to drop the temperature close to freezing, and then warmed by adding warm bleed air back into the airflow.

When carrying a number of animals in cargo spaces, especially large animals such as horses, temperature regulation is critical, and must be carefully maintained.

well, horses are usually main deck cargo-

A well used method to cool down smaller items is dry ice. . Never load dry ice in the same compartment jolding live animals.
