After looking at BUR on Google Maps following the Southwest overrun recently, I was surprised how close the two runways are to the passenger terminal. Does anyone know how these two runway safety areas/object free areas can be so close to aircraft parking spots and terminal buildings?
For example:
RWY 8/26:
The north side hold short marking to the centerline is the standard 250 feet safety area but the south side only has 125 feet from centerline to hold marking.

RWY 15/33:
The west side hold marking to the centerline is the standard 250 feet safety area but the east side only has 125 feet from centerline to hold marking and only 255 feet from centerline to an aircraft parked on gate B2.

FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-13A states that for runways of this size the nearest aircraft parking area cannot be within 500 feet of the runway centerline.

I'm assuming KBUR has some FAA approved modifications of standards but I'm curious if anyone can shed some light on this technical airport design question of mine.
Thanks!
