Delta A321 cockpit missing evacuation panel???

Sat Mar 30, 2019 10:58 pm

Hi Airliners.net users!
One thing I have noticed is that Delta took delivery of their 321s without the evacuation panel fitted in the cockpit. Does anybody know why that is or any other instance where this might be the case (this is standard on all airbus aircraft). Thanks!

Evacuation panel?

The only evacuation panels I am aware of on a 321 are the two cockpit windows that you open. Do Delta’s 321 cockpit windows not open?

I think he is talking about the depressurisation blow out panel located on the bottom half of the phase 2 doors.

Or are you talking about this panel, the one to command an evacuation:

A picture of a DL A321 shows that this section on the overhead panel is empty, where did it go?

Just looking quickly through the flight deck photos of Delta's Airbuses (330s and 350s included) it appears they are all missing it. It was probably an old NW thing that it was ordered without the panel and DL kept it out to keep the fleet common.

I think it's also a Delta thing. DL removed evac panels on ex-AC L-1011s and ex-GF, SQ 767/757s.

What would DL be gaining by going without this panel?

Delta could have an "Engineering Order" to remove them for fleet commonality. Not unheard of.
