Extra windows on 748 upper deck question

Fri May 17, 2019 12:22 pm

I've been watching photos of the 747-8 Pax version and noticed 2 extra windows in the rear section of upper deck on the left side only.
But it seems something default of the model, does anyone know why only on the left? Crew rest maybe?
Did not I find a map of seats that would justify these windows, any words of wisdom or some Boeing folks around to explain?

Those two windows provide daylight to the stairs.

On the 747-400, there is a closet next to the stairs. As posted earlier, there are windows there on a 747-8

All hail the perfection of the Queen of the Skies :praise:

The now-gone B747-400D, operated in Japanese Domestic Market, also had these extra windows.
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190. E-Jets are NOT ERJs!
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

Wow, I thought the exact opposite all this time! I always thought the stair was on the other side, thus the extra window was for the seats beside the stair.

This is what I (re-)joined this site for: discussion of aircraft and the answers to unique questions no one else cares about or understands...

Today I learned that (a) Air China is flying a civil version of the 747-8, (b) there are two extra windows on the left side of the -8, (c) what the purpose of those windows are, and (d) I walked right up the stairs to my seat (85K) on D-ABYD and never noticed those two windows.

I was too busy being excited to a fly a 747 upper deck in LH business class.

Great question, great responses, great people here, and a GREAT airplane!! Long live the Queen of the Skies!!

That is the flight manger's office, if I'm not mistaken. Someone can correct me, if I got it wrong. Personally, I like the one on the EK A380 better, more privacy.

We call it the Purser Work Station (PWS). Basically a seat in front of the screen that controlls cabin lightning, airconditioning, entertainment, waster & waste and so on and all the cabin documentation like cabin logbook is there.

Why isn't there windows on the other side of the upper deck?

Looking at the seat maps, either the lavatory or the galley is there.
