Why cover the tyres?

I understand the engine wrap thing but what is the reasoning behind protecting the tyres in this picture pls.?

you don't get a second chance to make a first impression!

It could be the brakes that are being protected. Or the gear assembly as a whole.

Because ultraviolet light (sunlight) breaks down rubber.

Rubber can be damaged & weakened if exposed to sunlight for too long duration.
I may not win often, but I damn well never lose!!! ;)
