Classic 747 Engines

Thu Jul 11, 2019 12:00 am

There is plenty of searchable info on the JT9Ds on this forum over the years but Ive had a hard time finding info on the CF6 or RB211s on the 747-100/-200/-300/SP. Reading through the engine performance charts show the CF6 is better until you compare it to the -7Q and -7R4G2 for range on the -200 and -300 747s. The -7F on the SP also provides better range than the RB211. How did the CF6 and RB211 do fuel burn, reliability, maintenance, range, and general overall performance wise? What about the amount of customers who chose the CF6 or RB211 over the JT9D, what were the percentage of air frames had those engines?
