Gulfstream G-IV climb performance

Mon Jul 15, 2019 5:30 am

What is the typical climb rate of a loaded Gulfstream 4? I managed to see one takeoff up close the other day and it looked like a rocket taking off. If I had to guess it looked about 5000fpm on initial climb out. I understand performance varies greatly on payload, temp, etc. but this thing is no slouch.

All of the bizjets are. A light-ish Global will level at 430 in about 17 minutes as will a Challenger 350; if unrestricted by ATC. 20 degrees of deck angle an still increasing airspeed on departure. I’m sure a G IV will be doing 5,000fpm+ down low.

Same engines as the Fokker 100. The G V and Global has the 717 engines.

I guess it's the case for all planes. If they're light, they go fast up.
IIRC, there was a video from Japan back in 90s, where 767 on domestic route went 6000+, 15mins all the way to F410, on 1h15m flight.
I would not be surprised if many widebodies, on full pax/no cargo and 1-2hr flight managed 5000+ fpm with their big wings/engines.

Cheers,
Adam
