PHL 17/35 Landing

Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:11 pm

On a recent flight from BUF to PHL in EMB 145 we landed on 17/35, is that common for commuter landings?
I have never landed or took off from that runway. AA 4957 was the flight. It is a 6500 foot runway.

Thanks

That's perfectly normal. They'll typically run ops in one of three different ways:
Arrive 27R and 35 and depart 27L, usually no ops on 26 when 35 is in use, sometimes 35 departures as well
Arrive 9R and 35 and depart 8 and 9L
Arrive 27L and 17 and depart 27R, sometimes land 26

As a reference, Burbank’s main landing runway is only 5,802’ long and sees upwards of 4 daily cargo A300’s land in addition to the normal bevy of 737’s, Airbus, and Ron Burkle’s private 757.

When I was going for cancer treatment in philly I made about 20 flights there. I don't recall which runway is which, but I remember landing and taking off with several combinations. I can't be 100% certain I was on 17/35 but quite likely.

It’s not just common, it happens all the time.
