American not painting SatCom antennas?

Thu Sep 05, 2019 5:06 pm

I've just recently noticed that American leaves the SatCom dome plain white on all of their A319, A320, and A321 aircraft. Every picture of these planes that I see features a white dome antenna instead of a matching grey color. Is there any reason for this?

The only thing I can think of is no paint = less weight/less cost. But I can't imagine painting a SatCom dome costs/weighs a whole lot... They paint the domes of the 737 and 787 to match the rest of the plane, so why is there a difference with the Airbus planes?

Thanks in advance.
