UA84 - southern route ?
I just noticed UA84 is flying southern Atlantic route EWR-TLV, rather than standard NE route. I see that occasionally and wondered is it due to prevailing winds ? was that track requested by the pilots or UA flight ops, or dictated by some other powers that be ? Just curious.

Probably got a good tail wind on the southern Atlantic route eastbound.

Routings change daily due to wind conditions. There are some tropical systems which will contribute to tail winds in the tropics and its likely they saved some flight time as a result. The distance increase doesn't matter; its all about tail winds or still air vs headwind shortening the flight time.

Ground speed is over 700 mph. A nice tailwind for sure.

Mach number a dimensionless measurement of flow velocity relative to the surrounding fluid. It cannot be referenced to the ground.
618 knots is a pretty high ground speed, but not that unusual.
