747 Section 41 modifications

Thu Sep 19, 2019 5:59 am

I remember when these were taking place

I Believe it was a reinforcement of the sides
Of the upper deck as pressurization loads
were causing cracks in the structure

Can anyone shed more light on the actual reinforcements and how they were done ?

Operating a twin over the ocean, you're always one engine failure from a total emergency.

At this recent picture of the Everett boneyard you can see the still present JAL 747SR fuselage (with the horizontal stripes) that was used to investigate / forcast the section 41 fatigue failures.
Far down is the special produced 747 SUD section 41 &42 used to fatigue test the section 41 fixes and possible re-enforcements of the also pear shaped section 42 of the 743 and 744.
