Payload Airbus A319NEO

Goodafternoon,

For a project I am doing I have some technical questions that do not understand. I hope that there is somebody who can help me out with the following questions!

1) If you have to fly 4000nm, and assume the aircraft (A139neo) is in a two class layout and an average passenger plus baggage weighs 100 kg (220lbs) and the weather is close to 0ft altitude ISA conditions.
How many passenger can an A319NEO without an Aircraft Centre Tank (ACT) carry 4000nm?

2) How can you determine the amount of passengers that an A319NEO can carry with an ACT (additional centre tank)?

3) How can you determine the amount of passengers that an A319NEO can carry with 2 ACT's?

I have attached the payload range chart for an airbus A319neo aircraft. I drew the blue line which suggests that the payload is 8000 kg for an A319neo WITHOUT an ACT. But that seems a little low because 8000 kg payload is around 80 people. The A319neo (what i found on the web) should be able to carry 120-150 people.

I hope someone can help me out with my problem!

This is not possible. A full A319 with no ACTs will handle half that distance. The A32x reaches its limits between 5 and 6 hours flight time without ACTs. There are so many weight variants and engine options, but 4000 nmi is very far beyond the norm for the A319 in regular airline service.

About 60. Of course that doesn't include allowance for head winds and such. Real world airline operation probably just a ferry flight.

To get an idea by looking at the AIRBUS ACAP. Maybe about 100~110, but that is darn close to the fuel volume limit.

3) How can you determine the amount of passengers that an A319NEO can carry with 2 ACT's?


1 ACT gives you fuel for ~400nm or a bit more. But you run into the MTOW long before you have a full cabin.

Hmm, so you have data for the A319-151 and A319-171? Because that's what the OP is asking about.

No. I fly the A319-111, 320-214 and 320-251. But we already know that the difference is about 14-15 % SFC. With no ACT, the real life range of a well loaded NEO with the highest MTOW is still going to be over 1000 nmi short of the 4000 suggested. As someone above suggested, adding ACTs will reduce possible payload significantly. As always, the practical range is far lower than the max theoretical range that Airbus (or other) is advertising.

The first and second each hold 3.100 liters of fuel, which is approximately 2,5t, which is pretty much what an A319ceo needs per hour on average for a maximum range flight.
So for an A319neo you could say that each ACT provides another 75min endurance, given the takeoff was at MTOW with full tanks.
