737-600 Cargo Hold

Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:08 pm

With SAS retiring the -600 shortly I have being looking at some pictures.

Does the -600 have 4 cargo hold's as the -800 or does it only have 2?

It must get interesting with a full load of pax and their bags!

Looking at the ACAPs, all 737s have one forward and one aft bulk cargo hold. The difference is in the available volume (21.4 cubic meters for the 737-600 compared to 45.1 cubic meters for the 737-800).

OK but I think he is talking about "compartments" not "cargo holds". From a ramper's or loader's perspective, there is a compartment forward of the door, and one aft of the door for a total of 4 compartments on most 737's

I think he is curious (and I am too) if all 4 compartments (bins) exist on this shortened version of the NG, or is one compartment, for example compartment / bin 2 aft of the forward door or compartment / bin 3 forward of the aft door, completely taken up by additional fuel tanks or machinery on the then "new" design.

I do remember that some of the bins / compartments on the -500 were super small and only held a few bags, maybe they were completely displaced on the newer design?

Yes this is exactly what I was getting at. I should have been clearer with my question.
