777 Freighter captain to passenger version

Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:29 pm

Hi all!
If i'm in captain position on a freighter 777, then, if i want to move to the 777 passanger version, then i will be first officer, right?

There are airlines which have a common crew pool for the freighter and the passenger version. One example is Asiana - their pilots are flying both 744 and 744F (they only have a single passenger 747 left right now, but it used to be more in the past). So a 777 freighter captain could easily transition to be a passenger configured 777.

I believe EK has a separate seniority list for the freighters that inhibits going from pax to freight but technically there is little difference between flying either aircraft other than some non normal procedures directed at smoke/fire/fumes removal. Many operators in the past have not distibguished between pax and freight to the extant that you might even fly both version on a single five day trip.

Not quite.
There's a dedicated group of freighter only pilots, who just fly the freighters. But pax aircraft pilots also pick up freighter trips on their rosters regularly.

Depends entirely on the company and what internal procedures they have. From a legal perspective, there is nothing wrong with going from a freighter to a passenger plane and keeping your position. Happens all the time on other types.

Semi-related, Atlas pilots bounce between their 767 Pax and Freighters along with their 747 Pax and Freighters

I think there may be some CBT training at home but that is about it

If your seniority can hold a captain's position? Then hold one you should!!
