747-8F Max range

So I'm trying to find out what the max range of 800F is when doing a ferry flight and carrying very little cargo and good weather. On wikipedia it shows the max range as 4300nm but I think that's with max payload weight. I don't need an exact number but just want to know how far should be able to fly in my sim.

Probably the same as the -8I.

One does not 747-800F. It is 747-8F.

Just a quick thumbnail calculation would be about 16 hours of flight time. So depending on winds that would be the range. The first hour figure 17 tonnes of fuel burn and then an average of 10 tonnes/hour plus reserves. The total fuel capacity of the 8F is about 181.5 tonnes of fuel.

A loaded -8I or an empty one. Do keep in mind that the -8F doesn't have the stabilizer tank, so it won't be able to fly as far as the -8I if both are empty. And if the -8I is loaded, it could really go either way.

an empty 8F is 23t lighter than the pax version. That is 5% of MTOW ( which will not be reached flying empty fully fueled )
8i OEW = 220t fuel = 193t : = 413t TOW
8f OEW = 197t fuel = 181t : = 378t TOW
4t less fuel moving 35t less TOW.

Page 29, 747-8F 400,218 lb fuel gets it to 8,700 nm basically no payload.

A BA pax 744 did LHR-SYD ferry flight, so presumably that would be very doable for an empty 748F with more efficient engines. (This is amateur assumption by me, a non pilot).

Don’t think so,
    That’s not within the capability of an ordinary 744, even an empty one


    Qantas flew LHR-SYD with a brand new, specially prepared mostly empty 744 using a special high density fuel.


    Many other special preparations and significant planning went into that flight


    It was not at the limit but barely within the ragged edge of what that airframe could do
    The best contribution to safety is a competent Pilot.

    Cathay regularly sends a B748F on Sunday’s direct to Hong Kong from JFK (most likely empty). That’s about a 16 hour flight plus the 30 mins reserve, alternate, and contingency fuel.

    Fuel with a higher density than normal. The tanks are limited by volume, so if the fuel density is higher, you have a higher fuel weight for a given volume.

    Found a payload vs. range chart, which I am too lazy to copy. But the range, still air for an empty 8F is about 8750 NM. It is an old chart, so it does not include any PIP improvements. But it should be pretty close.

    If you pull up the ACAPs there is a payload-range chart specific to the 747-8F. You will find around 8600nm.
