YPLM as PER Alternate - urgent

Fri Mar 20, 2020 4:05 pm

Hi!

A quick question, esp. to our CX collegues?

Do you use YPLM as ALTN for PER, or do you use "isolated aerodrome" procedure?

If you use Learmonth, are there any special approvals/PPR required?
What's the RFFS of YPLM? Can't find it in Jepp/AIP...

Cheers

CX typically plans Perth as an isolated aerodrome, with "Island Reserve" fuel. Same as Brisbane.

Navtech says RPLM has RFF 0. I guess no fire fighting in situ. So you could not nominate it as an alternate anyway.

Island reserve, or indeed a nominated alternate, is a planning thing, not an in-flight thing. If you have to land ASAP, you'd use whatever was available.

(Why is this urgent? ;) )

SAA also use ‘Island holding’ reserves. Essentially no alternate, 2 hrs holding fuel and 30min final reserve.

We have 2 hours holding at cruise level, replacing both alternate fuel and final reserve fuel.

Yes you are correct. 2hrs includes 30min final reserve.

National rules will differ but yeah.

Interestingly, hold at cruise level, as opposed to final reserve which is hold 30 minutes at 1500 feet AAL.
