A330neo "2nd Barrier" P/B

Sat Mar 21, 2020 10:58 pm

Does anybody know the function of the guarded pushbutton "2nd Barrier" on the cockpit door control panel?

I only have encountered it on the Delta A330neo. Do any other airlines have it?

Also while I'm at it, does anybody have info on what "ATTND ADV" button does on the A330 Calls Communications overhead panel?

Thanks in advance!!

If you press "2nd Barrier", steel spikes shoot out from the sides of the corridor behind the door, Raiders of the Last Ark style, impaling the potential intruder

I jest.. I jest. :)

No idea what ATTND ADV does. We don't have that pushbutton, and I can't see it in the optional equipment either. Might be NEO only.

2nd barrier probably refers to the optional second door at the end of the small corridor leading to the cockpit, allowing for an 'airlock' between the cockpit door and fwd galley, in which pilots can access the loo/optional crew rest area from the cockpit without pax interference. This door also has a lock but, IIRC, is not armored like the flight deck door.

ATTND ADV is probably just replacing the outdated 'PURSER' label on the call pushbutton (Few airlines still use the name 'purser' to denominate the lead cabin attendant).
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.
