Mitsubishi space Jet and MHI RJ ( CRJ)

Sun Jun 21, 2020 11:01 pm

I just read in Aviation week that Mitsubishi is closing it's Spacejet testing up in Washington and is studying their options with the CRJ program they just bought from Canadair. they were having trouble certifying the Spacejet it appears due to wiring issues, But now that they own all the CRJ technology? Could they not adapt the Canadair wiring tech to cover Both airplanes?? Especially since Canadair Had an essentially good airplane going all the way up to 70 seats. In a few years many of the smaller CRJ's will come due for replacement as well as some early ERJ's in the USA at least. Were Mitsubishi to deliver 2 good airplanes that meet the scope Clause? They could be fueling regional flying for the foreseeable future were they to not lose their heads like Embraer did and want scope clause changes to sell their airplanes in the USA. And? I do not see that happening anytime in the near future with the current business climate. I'm reading the AWST June 15-28,2020 edition Pg20-21.

I doubt they could adapt the wiring since the Spacejet has so many different systems and technologies being fly by wire compared to the CRJ. It would be a restart of the wiring design and could delay the certification schedule. They already brought in Latecore to rework the mess they had originally and it is mostly fixed now. Probably easier to keep what they have or start over vs shoehorning a different wiring system into the plane. Look how well shoehorning new tech worked for the 737Max.
We have to keep planes airworthy. That doesn't mean they have to fly.

Has MHI already closed up all testing at Moses Lake? If not, are any of the M90s still parked out there?
