A320 Family Center Fuel Tank system changes?

Hi all!

During a recent Lufthansa A320neo Flight (D-AINU), I noticed that something was off in the overhead panel.

Looks like instead of having the center fuel tanks feed directly to the engines, like on previous versions, the NEOs (I have seen pictures of newer CEOs having the same design) now have center transfer pumps, which feed fuel to their respective wing tank for feed to the engine. This is a design decision similar to the A350 fuel system design)

Can anyone confirm when this switchover was made (what MSN) to this new design, and what the reason for this was (communality with 350, weight savings, etc.?)

I don't know the exact MSN but I have seen it for the first time at around MSN6000. I don't know the reason for design change, but I guess it has to do with communality with A321s - they always used this design for the 321s.

Around 2014 is about when I started seeing the center tank pumps feed into the wing tanks instead of to the engines in our new 320s being delivered from XFW and TLS

The first plane in our fleet with that new center tank configuration was abound 6200-6300

Prior to 2014 A318/19/20 aircraft had electrical fuel boost pumps to transfer fuel from the centre tank to the cross-feed gallery to feed the engines. Transfer jet-pumps were introduced on the A321 aircraft at its entry into service to simplify the fuel system, replacing the center tank electrical fuel boost pumps previously used on A318/19/29.

To take advantage of this simplification, the transfer jet-pumps were introduced in the center tank of A319ceo and A320ceo aircraft delivered from 2014. and are standard on all A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft.

What about the outer wing tanks? Do the post-2014 A319/A320 and A319neo/A320neo aircraft also have a single wing tank like the A321s?

Single wing tank like the 321 would have been great. The 321 wing has a slightly thicker skin crossection and construction hence it could get away with No Outer Tanks. Newer 320 including NEO couldn't incorporate this as it would require re certification. So they retain the old design with Xfer Valves.
