sorry I can't seem to post the screen shot that would make my question obvious. The aircraft type is T206 and it is flying over eastern Massachusetts.

Aerial mapping or air sampling, happens all the time for any number of reasons. They work closely with ATC to formulate a flight plan concept with routings, altitudes, turn points etc., times to start/end the sorties. Flight crew and ATC working together as always (so we hope) and all is good.
