I was watching a very graphic video on You Tube (without the graphic warning, go figure!) about Iberia Flight 610 (the Bilbao crash) and a question arose, for those of you with scientific knowledge:

Many times when those videos pop up, I've noticed that victims are usually naked......which made me wonder, why do their clothes disappear, even if there were no signs of burns??

I apologize if this is not the proper forum for asking but I figured the answer probably has to do with "technical" right? Also if its too disturbing a question I apologize beforehand.

It's strange if the victims of the IB610 accident were indeed found naked, as this accident happened during the approach phase. Finding the victims naked usually means that there was an explosive depressurization or that the victims were ejected from the aircraft while it was still in flight (f.e. severe structural failure). This is the result from the high wind speeds experienced.

Unless it was a very powerful device, I don't think a bomb going off in the aircraft would lead to effects similar to explosive depressurization. Depressurisation is caused by the pressure vessel being breached, not a bomb in itself. The aircraft was at low altitude, so any depressurization would not have been explosive.

That does make sense..

This was a tragic CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) incident.

Doug Feith is a friend of a family member (an accident investigator that had been featured prominently in the media throughout the 90's). From what he's said: the unfortunate pictures to which you were exposed most likely reflected the aftermath of various peoples' encounters with the victims, (from investigators, to press, responders, to people first arriving without knowledge, etc.) When those images arrived onto your screen: There's no telling what amount of time had passed between the crash and what was photographed.

There wouldn't be any mechanical or physical reason for the passengers to be without clothing in that particular incident.

Although the aircraft and engines were of US origin in that incident: 1985 were "different times" insofar as the NTSB, Boeing, and P&W were not privy to that investigation.

Take what you will from that opinion, as to why the victims to may have been unclothed.

Maybe thieves took away what they could before everyone else arrived?
