I’m just getting more into airplanes and trying to do a project on antennas. This airplane example is a Piper PA-28-181 Archer II. I’ve labeled all the antennas, and I’ve noticed there’s a lot!
I’m specifically curious about #1. I know it looks more like a com antenna, but it also doesn’t look like most antennas I’ve come across. Any insight on why antenna #1 looks different than other com antennas and/or if there’s a more specific purpose for it?
Also, I’d love to learn more, so if someone is willing to label what each one does to confirm what I’m researching, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

You didn't attach an image, but I'll give a written description as best I can. From front to back: the small tube sticking out of the windshield is the OAT (outside air temperature) probe. On the plane's back you have the two large antennas for the comm radios. The two sticking out from the vertical stabilizer are VOR receivers. There are also a bunch of smaller antennas and receivers, such as the ELT, GPS, marker beacon, and transponder.

Another generalization on can make is Rad Alt. antennas are always on the bottom of the fuselage (Flat, square antennas with Direction of flight usually printed on them) and GPS antennas are always on top. Not sure a PA-28 would have either of these, but good for future reference. Oh, and welcome to A. Net.

My best guesses.
- Under right wing - Pitot tube.
- Between windshield panes - OAT probe.
- If installed, would be just above pilot seats - GPS antenna(s). These look like almost flush white radomes.
- Straight white antennas on top rear - VHF 1 and 2.
- Thin black antenna to the right of fin fillet - ELT.
- Swept back from fin on each side - VOR/ILS.
No ADF on this guy I that I can see, but that would be a cable from the top of the fin to the upper fuselage.
