GE or PW jet engines on Finnair MD-11s?

Thu Sep 02, 2021 7:06 pm

Does anyone know whether Finnair used PW or GE engines on their MD-11s? Also, is there a site or source for determining which aircraft used or uses which type of propulsion?

Sometimes I can tell just by looking at the jet engines from photos who manufactured those engines. Sometimes it is difficult for me. Thanks in advance for any information.

convair880mfan, based on information from rzjets.net, all eight Finnair MD-11 aircraft were powered by General Electric CF6-80C2D1 engines. Aircraft OH-NGA and OH-LGG had the CF6-80C2D1F variant.

Other A.net members will probably be able to give you additional sources, but http://www.rzjets.net provides general information about aircraft and operators. This site is not particularly comprehensive or specific, and occasionally not up-to-date, but it may provide you with some general, interesting data.

One easy way to tell the difference is to see if the core cone sticks out of the engine. If it does, it's GE. If it's got a more rounded core exhaust and the cone is not visible, it's PW. Check out this article: https://airlinercafe.com/page.php?id=392

Thanks you LH707330. The whole article is excellent. The site furnished by e38 is a keeper too. I have bookmarked both sites. Thanks again.
