What are the little dots on the fuselage forward of the forward door and above the general window line? Windows? Skylights? Something else?
It doesn't appear in all photos of the 720. Thanks for any information!

Looks like static ports or pitots or something similar, not windows.

Those are windows in the forward lavs. American had them in their 720s and early 707s.

Thanks again CrewBunk. I found a photo of an American Airlines 707 with those two lavatory windows. I think it is clear from that photo that they are little windows. Thanks again. I never noticed that in the 707 before.

It was unique to American’s aircraft.
The windows were on all the 720s and early 707-123/123Bs. The later -123Bs and all -323B/Cs didn’t have them.
When the First Class cabins of some aircraft were shortened, one of the forward lavs was converted to a carry-on luggage closet. During that conversion, the windows were blanked out. The pictures of the planes you found would have been sold from American before that conversion was done.

These windows weren’t like the ones in today’s lavs. They were very small and at an awkward angle. Even standing, one couldn’t look out. (The Electra was the same).

Some details do matter after all. Tall people must have been able to look out while it could have helped others to avoid claustrophobia. One is never too old to learn about the Boeing 720.

It was also pretty common on the soviet airliners of that time to have windows on the lavatory ceiling to let natural daylight in.

SK MD90's also had windows in the fwd khazi, great view , with blinds as well incase you just HAD to go prior to push.(of the aircraft).
