Air crew rostering on Delta's ATL->JNB->CPT->ATL triangle route

Sun Sep 11, 2022 2:28 pm

Hello fellow anutters,

I see that DL received permission to operate the triangle route ATL->JNB->CPT->ATL. I am curious how DL plans/rosters the air crew for this. How many pilots, what shifts, how the JNB -> CPT leg is handled. I understand there is an inbound crew that rests in either JNB or CPT, and that there is a seperate outbound crew.

I welcome additional thoughts on FA rostering too but more curious about the pilots.

Thank you!

I would have to assume.

A four pilot crew ATL-JNB (2 Captains/2 First Officers), RON, 2 pilots operate JNB-CPT, 2 pilots Deadhead, RON, 4 pilots operate CPT-ATL.

Yes would assume that the augmenting crew on ATL-JNB will operate the JNB-CPT and then will augment again on CPT-ATL?

I do not get the purpose of the triangle if both destinations will be served nonstop both ways.

yeah I thought this too. Not too long ago I thought we had the DL announcement of them serving ATL-CPT nonstop in addition to reinstating ATL-TLV.

So, for those of us who don't speak pilot, how many Delta employees with pilots licenses will be aboard when the plane leaves Atlanta?
