Mon Sep 25, 2000 4:29 am

Could am EMB-135 or EMB-145 loaded with 35 or 50 passengers have the range and ability given the altitude and summer temperatures at Eagle to fly to Dallas or Houston?

I seriously doubt it on most days espically in the summer. Even in Mid-March a 757 sometimes has problems stopping.

I have to concur with DeltaAir.... If you're headed for Dallas or Houston, you'd probably be stopping for gas at Denver or Amarillo. (On a **really** hot day, maybe *both*)

Many aircraft types have varying degrees (no pun intended) of problems at "hot-and-high" airports, but from what I've heard, the Jungle Jets are not exactly 757s when it comes to performance. Don't know if it has anything to do with the FADEC problems their engines are having (See press release at FAA website at, or whether the aircraft is just under-powered to begin with, or what.

Give me a 757 or 737-700 *any* day.......

OPNLGuy, while I doubt if the ERJ is underpowered, it is worth noting that the ERJ-145's two engines put out 7,000 lbs. of thrust apiece, while the rival CRJ-100's engines put out ~10k apiece, and I believe that a CRJ can make it into and out of Vail in April and/or May, though I could be wrong.
