747 Gear

Does anyone know and have any pictures of where the manual indications of the gear being down and locked are (in the cabin)??? on a 747

Don't have any pics...but there is a gear indicator above the gear handle and on teh FE panel (Classic 747). Not sure on the newer models.

Hi Seb, Buzz here. Well on the 747 it's an electrical / proximity switch indication. Ther are no portholes in the cabin floor (like 727's and 737's) or pop up knobs like DC-8's, DC-9's and DC-10's. There's a pair of prox sensors, and if they fail, you do a fly-by to see if all your feet are down.

I can send you pictures from my 747-400 Precision Simulator 1.3 of the gear indications with different status (brake temperature, in transit, closed, low tire pressure, too hot brakes,...)

There are no visual indicators of gear position on the 747. As Buzz says, there is a dual indication system for each leg. The Boeing philosophy is that if one of the dual systems is indicating down & locked, then the gear is down & locked.
