If you are questioning my DC-8 picture, all I know is that those are the air inlets for the air conditioning system. I am sure there are better answers, but that is the basic answer.

Just curious, the question was "What are the holes under the nose?" The web site goes on to explain noise ruduction features of the turbo jet engines.

Never have had the experience of working on DC-8's I'm also curious of the flaming nostrals? Cabin enviorment?

Inlets for the cooling air for the two air-conditioning packs primary heat exchangers.

Wrong 411A, -40 series 8's did not have air-conditioning packs like modern jets. The holes are intakes for the 4 cabin turbo compressors.

Hi guys.

If you check out my profile and look at the list of Thread Starters for the Tech/Ops forum, you will find a question I also posted about the air intakes on DC-8's and other airliners.

It's the 3rd question from the very bottom of my list of Tech thread starters (on the first page).

There's some good info there that I'm sure can help.

Regarding the DC-8, a member named JETPILOT said they were intakes for 4 turbo-compressors. This is what Whalepilot has mentioned also.

Just my 2 cents guys.

Well Whalepilot, refer to Mr Spaceman's post and do a search...and all will be revealed, ie: turbocompressors AND cooling air for the heat exchangers.
And you say...no air conditioning packs?

That's right Mr. 411A smartass, no a/c packs, just the original piece of sh*t Douglas freon systems.

Gosh Whalepilot, you sound slightly pretentious.
So, if we understand you correctly, NO DC-8's have a/c packs?

Only the -70 series have air cycle machines.

The DC8 as originally designed has no PAC cooling system. Only a freon system.

The heat exchanger system which the center inlet feeds is used to cool off and regulate the temperature of the compressed air from the TC's to be used for cabin heating.

Its not for an air cyle machine.
