328 Or 328JET?

Hey all,

I was at Columbia Metro (KCAE) today and I saw a Donier parked at Eagle Aviation (a GA outfit I think). I couldn't tell if it was a Dornier 328 or Donier 328JET because it was missing the engines. However, the engine pylons were still attached to the plane. The plane was in United colors but missing tail logos and no lettering on the fuselage. The reg was something like N***D* (DF I think) which was strange because I thought UAL regs are usually N***UA. So which is it, the prop or the jet? Thanks.

Now that I think about it, the reg might have ended with F* perhaps N***FD.

No real idea, but I think i remember hearing that they didn't like the Jets and are doing away with them?

All possible onesI was able to find out:
N328FD = 328JET, Ultimate Air Charters
N350AD = 328 Prop, Air Wisconsin (most likely)
N328FD = 328JET, Dornier, later re-registered D-BDXM

ACA´s FRJs are all having N4XXFJ.

You saw either 451FJ or 452FJ down at our mx. base in CAE. They are both 328JETS (we don't have the prop version). The United logo's have been stripped off of these two birds since we are no longer using the 328JET to support United effective 10/1/02. The airplane you saw is probably being temporarily canonabilized for parts hence the lack of engines. It will eventually re-enter service in either our charter operation or go to the Delta side.

Regional aircraft are not typically registered like their mainline counterparts (N***UA, etc.) because they are not owned or operated by the mainline. They are registered under the operating company's registration scheme. In this case, it seems ACA registers its 328JET aircraft as N4**FJ. With all the code sharing going on it's not easy to tell who owns or operates a given aircraft by referencing the paint scheme alone. Many times, you have to look for the little sticker next to the boarding door "Operated by XYZ Airlines" to know for sure, because companies often lease aircraft to other companies without reregistering or even repainting the airplane.

If you have the chance to see this aircraft again. look at the wheels!
The Do- Jet has little bigger ones and you can see bigger brakes than the prop.

I thought all the 328s that UAX had were only props. I thought Delat conection only had the jet engines? I worked for ACA at one time and thats what I was told.
