Hey all,
I was fueling a 727 yesterday and I noticed something that this particular aircraft had which I don't always see. On the right wing, just outboard of the root there was this object that looked like a pitot tube on steroids. It was about 18 inches long, and had a 2" hole in the front. It was about 18" outboard and the front of it was almost parallell with the front of the wheel well door. Any ideas what this was and why it's not on every aircraft? Thanks

Best I could find, it's just to the left of the cooling fan door. If you look, you can kindof see it, I don't know any other specific aircraft so this is the best I can do without looking through all the 727 pics on here. Same aircraft I was fueling.

Can't make it out. Is it possible you could take a picture next time you see it?
Check out all of the doublers on the nose of that well worn 27. She's been beat up pretty bad but her paint hides it well.

Sounds like an ADF or HF antenna ? Some B727's had them in that location.

sorry, best pic I could find. They are usually in here before dawn. I'm in a pretty big hurry when they come in. I really don't think it's an antenna. But, any ideas would help.

I think its a fluid drain, but I don't know what its draining.

I'm willing to bet its a ram air duct to direct more air into the wheel well for brake and tire cooling.
Was there one on the opposite side?
I have seen that on some 727's in the past.

Seems to me to be a wheel area vent.(inlet tube) Mexicana 727-200 have it.
