Delta Hourly Pay Rates, Why So High?
So according to this site http://www.airlinepilotpay.com/dal/dal.htm delta is the best paying airline out there. Also, the second year pay rate for an F/O doubles from the first years.
So I ask, what do DL's pilots have that other airline pilots don't have? Why all other carriers are paying less than 250 an hour for the most experienced captain?

Two things.
An effective union and a company who ineffectively deals with it.
Delta caves into ALPA every time because they know that they can take away or hold back benefits for the rest of the Delta employees who are non-union in order to pay for the extravagant pilot contracts they end up signing.
Delta pilots put their pants on the same way in the morning that other pilots do....it just takes a while longer to stuff their wallets into their back pockets.

Prior to Sept 11th, the Delta pay rates weren't so different from other major carriers. The difference comes from the fact that the Delta pilots have not given up anything from thier contract while most other passenger carriers have, either by choice or by bankruptcy judge. This is a very contentious issue at Delta right now, and is currently in negotiations.
