Scary Take Off @ JFK
Yesterday while spotting at JFK, an Olympic A340 took off and I almost lost my lunch. It rotated as normal. At about 50ft while the gear were retracting, it banked violently to left then to the right.Then the a/c bobbed up and down like it wanted to drop out of the sky. It look like a stall. It was the scariest thing I ever saw. Was it wake turbulence?

Took off after an AZ 777 and before an LH A343? I was spotting from T1.
not sure what it was. didnt see it bobble up and down, just saw a bank and then straighten out..

I have seen some tight turns after take off at JFK, but nothing at fifty feet. Could it have gotten caught up in the AZ 777's wake?

It just sounds like a little bit of wake turbulance, or possibly mechanical turbulance off of some of the buildings surround Kennedy if the winds were strong. Maybe a little Low Level Windshear. Uncomfortable, yes, but exceptional no. It happens, you fly through it, thats what pilots get paid for.

I have witnessed some scary things at JFK in just one day of being there, and I had hoped I wouldn't get stuck in it again. I do not plan on flying through there again unless I really have to.

That could happen at almost any airport. Kennedy has no unique features with regards to wind, turbulance, or other weather.

LHR gets it's share of bumpy approaches when the wind comes off the roof of the hangards between the runways.
As Lowrider says, this is common stuff and what looks scary from the outside is probably just routine for the pilots. JFK is nothing compared to Paro (Bhutan), Innsbruck or Funchal.
