If you have not yet done so this is a question for Tech/Ops. I am sure some one in there should know. I know for a fact most airlines and corporate jet companies contract out. Based on what some one else told me a 757's D check may cost about 50-->$75.000 dollars. The aircraft may be out of service for 3 months. My2cents

I don't know how much a C or a D check costs (I can try and find out when I return to work), But I can assure you that you can easily add a zero to the above figure and you may be getting close.

It's easily in the millions for a C and D check on a 747 or 777. Also depends the shape of the a/c.

Also on the Age of the Aircraft.Structural Repair Programmes add a lot.

We can do a c-check on a 747 within a week (depends how bad it is) and a 747 D-check in 4 weeks, including painting. But that is extremely fast, usually (other Maintenance facilities) 5-8 weeks..

On the price : I can give you a competitive offer, we have some open slots next year  Wink

We just signed up Cargolux for 10 D-checks last week (among other things). Several million Euros per check.

Its a bit of a trick question.

There are the C and D checks in their own right but there is also the resulting unscheduled work that goes along side it. If you are doing a check you are, as the name indicates, checking something. If it is not right then you have to carry our further 'unscheduled' work to correct it. This can double or quadrouple the C and D check hours dependent on the aircraft's age and operating conditions. Then there are the out of phase checks to consider. These are checks that are not carried out on a routine basis but are done on number of cycles, reaching a certain amount of hours etc. It all adds up.

Finally, the price depends on where you do it. The price is very dependent on the manhour rate charged. Lufthansa Tech probably charge £70 per hour but Gamco in Abu Dabi will charge half that. Its getting very hard in the UK to make money as an MRO due to competition from the Eastern European countries. They pay their staff a pittance compared to us so their overall price is significantly cheaper. They also dont spend the money on the sort of health and safety conditions that we have to employ. Unfortunately at the end of the day, the airlines will go where its cheap.

Thats the worry. As long as Safety is not compromised.
Out here part Check C is carried out during Check B Inspections thus reducing the AOG time during Check C.

Can it get to the 150 million range for one D check?
Who carries them out in Europe?

How long did it take to do the latest Corsair 744?
Is that photo from Schiphol-Oost?

Not on purpose, you'd just buy a new plane.

I don't know the costs for a 747, but a D check for an MD80 was costing us about $1-1.5M before we outsourced them at DL. That cost did not include the cost of a strip and paint. Many operators also do that at D check.
