Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:48 pm

Would you well informed guys agree with my assumptions regarding current lease rates:

734-160K a month
738-250K a month

I think a lot of it depends on how many you are going to lease aswell but I think a 737-800 is slightly more than that, I heard a figure of about 400K a month. But on the other side you can get a 757-200 for a quarter of that at only 100K a month which just proves how much people don't want to fly them anymore.

These are not definite but are more of a ball park figure and are in UK Pounds.

edit because the pound sign comes up as a question mark.

Thanks Must say it is somewhat higher than I thought esp as I was qouting those fig in USD. Wow thats $700,000 a month for a 738. and only $170 for a 752? will that be one in storage that needs maintanance etc or would thatbe ready to go?

I am pretty sure those figures I was told were in UK pounds and not US dollars. That 100K for a 757 is the new price we are paying for the ones that are already flying in our fleet, so I guess if you got one that needed some work from the desert then you would be paying even less than that. But as a mere mechanic on the shop floor I am not privy to anymore info than that.

Delta has been renegotiating some of their MD-80 leases for around $50k. If there were a large 737-400 carrier just entering bk, you'd find those around that price, but it should be said that those are fire sale prices. The 737-800 is going to be much closer to your estimate.

You guys have been great, very helpful data. Is there a case to be made on Lease rate V. fuel burn in making decisions on fleets? I assume that most times when it comes to considering aircraft they are in teh same category and age so fuel burn is also the about the same?

Looking at the link LaxIntl posted I guess the figures I heard were in US Dollars and not UK Pounds.

I think it is not just lease rate and fuel burn that are taken into account but also the maintenance costs aswell. For example a 737-800 can have it's 'C' check done in about 5 days for the first 5 or so years where as the 757's are generally starting to get quite old and they can be down for up to a month. The reason for this is mainly the corrosion that gets found on the 'rust bucket' also known as the 757-200.

rust buckett? thats a shame I personally really like the 757. How much would the mainatance of such a machine cost throughout the Year? also would yo have any info on fuel use(typical Gallon per Hour)?

Cheers

Yeah the 757's that we have are getting on for 10+ years old and when they come in fairly major corrosion is always found in the cargo bays and under the galley's. I have no idea how much the maintenance on one aircraft would cost over a year plus there is a lot of variables such as how many aircraft you have in your fleet and whether you have in house or third party maintenance etc.

Don't get me wrong I really like the 757 aswell but they just seem to corrode more than the 767, but that might just be down to the high utilisation they have.

Does the flight hours used per month effect the lease rate? I assume a differernt price would be charged for a user of 270 hours and 150 hours?

The way I understand, it's much like a car lease. I don't think there is HRS or CYC limits, you just have to return in 'fresh off C-check' condition. With the original engine s/n's installed. There is also what is called "power by the hour". It would be a short term contract, spare aircraft situation. You pay exactly that, for each flt hr used. Regardless of 'c-check' status.

Is there a cycle limit on aircraft or number of hours...after certain cyc/hours is reached it cannot fly regardless of maintenance..

In long haul flight(18 hr per day) which factor increses the lease rate most. is it number of hours or no. of cycle
