Quoting ReidYYZ (Reply 8): I once worked with a guy, always dress pants, white shirt and tie. Not a supervisor (ex-BA Engineer) he used to say "I'm not paid for what I do, but for what I know!" |

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 32): Sorry for asking this rather dumb question, but what exactly is a technician. A mechanic or an engineer? |

Quoting HAWK21M (Reply 34): Out here..... Persons with basic qualification [Aviation school Dip in AME] are graded as Aircraft apprentices. Persons with Type knowledge but no licence are graded as Aircrat technicians. Persons with Type Knowledge & licenced are graded as Aircraft Maintenance Engineers or AMEs. |
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 36): Well here: People with type knowledge but no license are called mechanics, and with license Technicians. The type of education also varies, if you have finished all the 13 EASA modules on B1 level you're a technician. That's at least how we call things in Europe Wink |
Quoting MD11Engineer (Reply 37): No everywhere. In British influenced countries (and I think in this aspect India counts as one) a mechanic is a person with an apprenticeship, but no licence. Somebody with full licence and type training is a licenced engineer. (My Irish EASA Part 66 B1 licence say "Aircraft Maintenance Engineer" on it´s cover). |
Quoting MD11Engineer (Reply 37): A chartered engineer is a person who has at least a masters degree in engineering and designs something. |
Quoting MX757 (Reply 12): The caption under the picture stated: College education to break it. High school education to fix it. |
