Range And Payload

Sun May 28, 2006 7:54 pm

Hey all

I've been told that the MZFW is meant to prevent the wings from suffering overly excessive bending moments in the event of low fuel in the tanks. I'm sure anyone whos done aircraft structures will agree. Do companys like Airbus/ boeing increase the payload of an aircraft by increasing the MZFW, this would mean a strengthening of the wing...am i correct?

Can anyone explain to me how payload and range co-relate to each other and how a company such as airbus may derive their payload range charts.
I know it might be asking a lot....but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Assuming that the aircraft could takeoff at MTOW, this range is representative (but not real-world accurate) of what the max payload an aircraft could carry given a certain amount of fuel required to complete a mission.

I am going to throw the obvious statement out there that payload weight has a direct effect on the range of the airplane. I recall from my design classes that there are a series of equations to calculate this. If you want to details, go check out the design books by Raymer or Roskom. These equations were a function of the weight of the airplane.
If it was said by us, then it must be true.
