The fuel panels were also common places for graffiti to appear. In fact, I would draw a little character (which is the inspiration for my user name) on most
NW panels (inside, not on the exterior surface, of course). There was a lot of back-and-forth between
MSP and
DTW fuelers back then. I remember back in 1991, during the World Series between the Twins and Braves, every flight I would service that went to
ATL would leave with a Xerox copy of a Homer Hanky taped to the inside of the fuel panel (both
NW and
DL). I remember seeing a tomahawk made out of cardboard tubing come out of the forward cargo hold of a
DL 727 one day. It was pretty big, and the
DL ramp crew had to angle it pretty well to get it out of the hold. Fun stuff, and it was all the better when the Twins won.
