No wrong guesses...wow...good job everyone!

What was it... The bulge of the weather radar? The flaps themselves? The flap actuator housings?

Now I have to say something about this next one...ahem....okay, here goes.....*@#[email protected]#!!

The flap + flap fairings, the radar dome made me 100% sure, and the fact that I worked on several PC-12 just a week ago must have helped  Wink

It was the radome for me - followed by a quick check of the flaps...fairly unique I must say!

When I saw the pic, my instinct said: Single Engine Prop. So I seacrhed a.net and on the first page there was a pic of a PC-12 in whch I could see the flaps. Then I searched for better pics and found one with Google. I could see the pitot-tube, radome, flaps, even the small plate on the side of the flap was there. At that point I was 100% sure   Smile

Now on the lookout for the next one..

And the correct answer is:

http://2h4.smugmug.com/photos/385446848_oexJB-XL.jpg

Unguessed!

That's right, nobody got this one.

Other Guesses Included:

- "A twin-boom single reciprocating engine light aircraft with bush tires probably used for observation and with capability of carrying a stretcher patient photographed somewhere in Africa or Australia."

An awesome guess, to be sure, but unfortunately not sufficient to win the point.

So here's the deal: This one is still up for grabs. Everyone has until the end of the contest. Only one point will be awarded....to the first person to correctly identify it.

And the correct answer is:

After 2 days of frenzied searching and sleepless nights, I have come to the only logical conclusion to this one:

This aircraft has never flown and does not exist.

The fact that 2H4 has a picture of it is most probably explained by a space/time disturbance caused by the LHC when it was fired a few weeks ago, which briefly opened a passage to a parallel universe. Since 2H4 was at the time hacking into their system, this picture of an aircraft unknown to our universe somehow ended up in his hard disk.

Oh, and I want the last 2 days of my life back.

 biggrin

Ps: This one is even more obscure than that Pilatus PC-8 you threw at us in the last installment...
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

Yes...it is definitely confirmation that there is an aberration in the space/time continuum, and proof positive that there is a parallel universe. All efforts to identify this aircraft have led to the inescapable conclusion that no such aircraft exists on this earthly plane, and must therefore be deemed a true UFO.

Quoting Francoflier (Reply 210):

I have a photo which I want to upload to the site, but i don't have the registration. Now that's not really a problem, but I don't know the aircraft type either!
I was wondering if one of you could have a quick look... The photo is in my profile, the yellow thing with "fire" and 401" written on it. A DB search didn't help me either.

Well, dang it. There is only one picture in the database too. I might of found it eventually but I ran out of time. That was a good tough one.

I got a good lead on the next one though.  Wink

Old habit from my NIFA competition days. Since the answer sheets they gave us in the competitions were at least partly multiple choice, the coaches taught us that if you did not know what it was to make a guess. That way you had a 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 chance of getting it right.

Since there are no multiple choice answers in this competiton, creativity and wags will have to do instead.  spin

Of course, for the fill-in-the-blanks at the end, proper form was to guess "BAe None None". The nones, in case the aircraft in question has no numerical designation or name. And BAe, because there were so many BAe-related aircraft.  Wink

Wing D-1 Derringer

Ahh!

That was the answer to the first question on the NIFA practice test I took less than 12 hours ago! I even saw the slide and thought to myself "that looked like the A.Net question of the week!" I remembered the "Wing" part of the name, but not the rest...and googling "wing aircraft" doesn't bring back many good results...

On the test I corrected yesterday, I saw the "BAe None None" and wondered to myself why someone was guessing that for a MiG. Makes a little more sense now...
