European TAF Question

LFPG 040500Z 0406/0512 VRB02KT CAVOK
BECMG 0408/0410 SCT030
BECMG 0415/0417 CAVOK
BECMG 0504/0506 20006KT BKN015 TX27/0415Z
TN17/0504Z

Two questions:

1) I know what CAVOK implies, but what is the technical definition for what would qualify as CAVOK?

2) What does the TX27/0415Z TN17/0504Z mean? Might it be the high and low temperature with the associated times?

IIRC from flightschool: no clouds below 5000' AGL and visibility more than 10km.

It stands for Ceiling and Visibility OK (if you didn't know that) - I don't know if the definition changes subtely around the world - here in Australia, it's no cloud below 5000' AGL and no CB cloud, visibility >10km, and no other significant weather phenomena (such as dust devils etc.). From memory this is within a 5nm radius of the aerodrome, but I may be imagining that bit.

Sorta, its 5 SM. Here is the states the TAF blanks all airports within 5 statue miles and I assume its the same for worldwide standardization.

It is indeed helpful if huge changes in temperature are to be expected. Then you can check earlier if you will be performance restricted or not.

It is no clouds below 5000' AGL or highest MSA (Minimum Sector Altitude) if higher.
