TV Screens FD

Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:48 pm

I always thought the A380 were the first with FD TV screens but
I watched this 777 vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ4keU4xcrM&feature=related
and saw the TV screens on the FD.
Does anyone know on which aircraft they were first introduced?

If what you mean is EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrumentation System), which can have CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes... aka TVs) or LCDs... CRTs came first, LCDs later.

First generation EFIS in airliners were installed on the 757/767, A300-600 and A310...
757/767 included PFD, ND, EICAS (Engine Instrumentation and Crew Alerting System... A300-600 and A310 included PDF, ND, and CAM (Crew Alert Monitor). Later on the 737-300 had EFIS which only had PFD and ND... and the 744s and A320s were the first to have the 2nd gen EFIS... ie: analogue instruments are only on the standby instruments.

That is the external view cameras... Whilst airlines have installed the system for passenger views... it only became standard for large planes starting with the 773 and A346... this is not for blind spots, but to assist in taxiing due to the loooooooong (I mean long) wheelbase... therefore reducing the chance of the aircraft's main wheels becoming wheelbarrows in the airport gardens

B77W:I did not realise that you can select which screen you can view the the GMC (Ground Manoeuvering Cameras)
but usually at the bottom.
Does anyone have some cool shots of the GMC in action?
Many thanks!

I guess you answered your own request with the video, but here are some photos

Another landing on the 777

You can see the camera on the F/O's side in the beginning, but more time was devoted for new features:

Can't find info on the 787, but considering its roughly the size of the A330 it would seem wasteful to install cameras that won't be used much. The 747-8 on the other hand is longer than the A346 and will most likely need cameras.
