Why no auto T/O?
How would it work?The opposite of an autoland?

I do not really dig the following but if this helps:
I have had no problem engaging HDG HLD, HDG SEL, V/S and FLCH on a 747-400 on the ground. Theoretically, you could use FLCH for takeoff, if it wasn't so risky doing so (I believe someone has already tried this, anyway, in real life and got away with it).

Autolands exist because the autopilots can follow a glidepath very precisely without visual cues, even in severe winds. When taking off, the runway is visible in all but the thickest fog so there is no need for such technology.
There are no technical limitations to auto take-off. UAVs like Global Hawk do it all the time. There is, however, no motive to spend the money to develop the technology for airliners, given that the pilots are going to be there anyway.

It might work, but it would be a complete kludge. The FLCH mode isn't designed, at all, for rotation or maneuvering at those kinds of speeds and altitudes.
