Prevalence Of Twins/ETOPS Over Atlantic/Pacific

Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:36 am

Hi guys,

I remember seeing some statistic about the proportion of trans-Atlantic/Pacific flights made twin engine aircraft. For some reason, though, I'm not able to find it even after searching Google and over here. Could someone one kindly point me to it? Thanks in advance!

I'm doing an essay on the importance of ETOPS to airlines and I can't help but think of a better reason that the sheer number of flights performed under ETOPS rules over the Atlantic!

Thanks.

North and central Atlantic...yes.

South Atlantic (especially far south) not likely, due to the diversion distances involved.
Having done considerable south Atlantic crossings recently in Lockheed TriStar equipment, the only other airliners we noticed were of the four engine variety.

I'm not sure of a place the exact data you're after is available in a public setting, but Boeing's AERO magazine has a lot of good ETOPS articles that may contain what you're looking for:
