DC-10-40 Oxygen Mask Test

Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:06 pm

http://archives.tsr.ch/player/instant-volsr352

In the first 20 seconds, the crew are testing oxygen masks.
I have never seen it done before.
Was this part of the DC-10 pre-flight check (MEL) or SR imposed?

Another eye-opener skipping to 44:50 though 45:30.
The narrator points out to the mods concerning some aero add-ons to improve performance and fuel efficency.

Some sort of mask test should be done at least on the first flight of the day.

DC-10-40 Oxygen Mask Test

Nice video. By the way, SR had the DC-10-30, not -40. Only NW and JAL operated the -40.

I never knew there were DC-10's with the "vertical-tape" engine instruments. I'm used to seeing those on the L-1011, not the DC-10.

Great classic footage.

At least DC-10-30s of KLM, SAS, Swissair and UTA would have had the vertical tape instruments as they were part of the KSSU maintenance consortium and ordered their DC-10s with identical technical configurations since they were maintained jointly.

Thanks, I noticed there was a pic of a Northwest DC-10-40 with the old-style (non-digital) vertical tapes, too, so apparently it wasn't entirely limited to European operators.

On all my aircrafts I flew so far you have to do an oxygen mask check. Just to see if the oxygen flows and if the microphone works in the mask as well, so that you can communicate.

PW. Seriously, it's a good idea to use Google to find these answers faster

You'll find them on classic B74's as well, at KL's anyway.
