CO Already At T3 SFO?

Wed May 11, 2011 2:36 am

Hey I saw a pic of LH A380 at SFO on their first day using the A380 on the route today and noticed a few CO 737s as gates 89 and 90 at concourse F terminal 3 which is UAs home. Has CO already moved over????

Continental moved on May 10th to terminal 3 and will be using gates 88-90, which are gates capable of 737s and 757s. Air Canada also moved to the international terminal.

CO is normally very good at putting terminal changes on the website, but I didn't see the SFO change. Oh well, guess I'll have to find a new sandwich shop around the upper 80's since they won't be in the 30's now.

What is going to happen to all the empty gates in T1 for the time being?

88-90 I believe are dedicated to the CO planes, but they can also use other gates if needed. They can use other gates, but I believe there is a lot of towing of airplanes to gates from remote stands/the maintenance base. There are not enough gates for all the RON aircraft at SFO, so some have to be towed to the gate as soon as the 6am departures leave. Fortunately there is no shortage of ramp space to park planes since UA owns about 1/3 of the airport's paved area.

Some of the gates at SFO are very tight, so dedicated gates at the end of the pier make sense since they are best suited to CO's operation since they fit the 737s well and don't use up the gates that are capable of the 767s & 777s. CO only has 3 757 flights to SFO. The rest are 737s.
