South East Asia-Bangkok?-Middle East Why?

Wed May 11, 2011 4:34 am

Why do most flights from south Hong Kong and other cities in south east Asia stop in Bangkok before going onto the middle east? Why not nonstop.

I bet it has something to do with demand, but I can't figure out why.

Also, are you sure about this? Emirates and Qatar seem to be all over the place.

Well, all of these airlines have nonstops both ways, in some cases multiple:

(I just plugged in nonstop to DXB from their respective hubs)

Emirates
Singapore
Cathay
Malaysian (Stops in Karachi, not BKK)

Those are 4 Major airlines from both Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Islam only accounts for 4 percent of the population, so I guess I'm as stumped as you do. I think you saw this more like 5-10 years ago instead of today. Can you give me some examples? Of course there are many other routes I guess you could come up with.
