A320 Width Question

Wed Apr 04, 2012 10:19 am

The A320 is wider than the 737.

Do most operators have a wider aisle or install wider seats with this in mind ?

The majority put the extra six inches into the seats, not the aisle.

The A320 can fit an 18'' wide economy seat compared to a 17.2'' wide seat for the 737. Usually operators use the wider seats, but not all do.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

...except for the european LCCs.
They use a 17.5" seat width, and use the wider aisle to enhance turn-around times.

It doesn't look like much, but it's just that bit wider that you can walk past someone who's fiddling with their luggage in the overhead luggage bin.

And to be fair, 17.5" width for a short european sector is fine.
If the plane goes on time and you don't have to stand around for ages whilst somebody is blocking the aisle picking up billions of loose items from the OHC, that's fine by me...
