"Access" Printed On Boarding Pass

Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:04 am

Friends of my family recently flew FRA-GRU on TAM in Eco and wondered why they had the word "access" printed prominently on their boarding pass.

Can anyone help us what that means and why it's printed on the BP?

Thanks

Are they elite, or Star Alliance Silver/Gold status passengers? Often, elite members of alliances will have some word printed prominently, so that they are readily given the perks of such status by laymen, like the security screeners, for example...

They are third agers in their early 60s, both ex Senators at LH (years ago), now only basic Miles & More members ...

the word "access"

Are you sure it didn't say "Elite access" or "Priority access" ??

Jimbo: It definitely only said "Access", printed in normal font size on the middle left side of the BP left of the frequent flyer code

I believe this is to show the security inspection team the documents have been verified and they can proceed through screening. Some places stamp " DOC CHECKED" or some other notation. Think it just verifies the customer name and passport information match.

If that was the case every boarding pass would have a similar marking.

Sounds more like an Access to a particular facility.

It is facility specific. You see different methods in different airports for verifying documents have been checked. Ever fly to CDG and have the sticker placed on your passport? How about GRU does a sticker also. Each airport take a different tact at verifying documents

Yes, but the OP said it was printed on the boarding pass, presumably when issued. Not a sticker, stamp or marker pen tick, such as would be added afterwards by security.

You won't get a boarding pass without your passport matching the name details on your ticket anyway.

Thanks for all your answers. It was even printed on the Internet check-in boarding pass. So I doubt it has to do with Passports matching. And no, they did not ask for specific assistance etc.

I think the most likely reason is to permit access to the departure lounge.

Sorry guys, but none of the answers above is correct.

"Acess" is the name JJ uses for it's cheapest economy fare on international flights, except "Promo". The next one is called "Flex" ans the most expensive economy fare is called "Plus".
